Install a built-in shower mixer

To change a shower mixer, once the old shower is off, the new facade can be used to delimit the perimeter. The valve body itself can determine the size of the recess to be cut by Plumbing Services Dubai.

The first step is to cut through the tiles without disturbing the pipes which should remain behind. According to Plumbing Services Dubai, the best tool for this job is an oscillating tool equipped with a diamond or carbide segment saw.

Once the tile is cut around the perimeter, it can be cut with a chisel in an SDS drill bit

Once done, start driving the perimeter of the hole deeper into the wall. Create enough space to allow the chisel to be sunk to its final depth without putting too much lateral force on the existing tiles.

When there is room to chisel to the depth freely, mark the final depth required on the chisel and drive it to that depth around the edge. Once the edge is cut deep, back away from the edge using a wider chisel (eg 40mm), to get the waste out and leave it level at the back.

In case the valve stems are a bit wider than the actual faceplate, especially when the pipes are connected. This means that it would not be possible to simply cut the required size hole in the wall without also removing the tiles that would ultimately be needed. It is, therefore, necessary to cut the wall behind the tiles while leaving them intact. The easiest way to do this is to use a hand-cranked notching chisel.

Residential Plumbing Repair carefully extends the recess into the wall but leaves the tiles and their plaster backing in place. The same problem exists for the outlet pipe. Like most concealed mixers, the outlet is at the top, so where this is not connected to a fixed ‘in-the-wall’ shower head, this must be routed to one side; so that the shower hose does not protrude from the controls for connection to an outlet elbow.

The outlet pipe must therefore be welded from a female socket

To accommodate the outlet pipe in the wall, a hole must be drilled through. The tiles to a depth adaptable to the latter. The recess in the wall is to be chased laterally with the SDS gouge until. It meets and extends into the drilled hole. Sufficient material must be removed to allow the outlet pipe to be inserted and rotated.

Once the outlet pipe is also positioned close to the valve. The valve itself can be removed simply by disconnecting the top compression fitting and loosening the two union nuts.

The outlet pipe connection should first be sealed to the wall with silicone. Then the outlet elbow should be screwed into it the tail of the elbow. Should be cut to length, and the heel wrapped in PTFE tape to ensure a good seal on the threads. Wrapping the thicker PTFE tape closer to the base. The thread will help create a squeeze fit, which holds the elbow in the correct orientation once it is screwed in.

The final finishing plate can now be pressed in, and silicone should be applied. To the top and edges to prevent water from following behind the tiles.

Install a shower tray

Plumbing Services Dubai install a shower pan, hold it to the side and run a bead of sanitary silicone sealant around the drain hole. Put the outlet of the drain in the hole so that it enters the sealant. Make sure you have installed the supplied washers and use an adjustable wrench to tighten the lock nut. Then you can install the siphon on the waste outlet. Put on protective gloves and mix the mortar. Take a trowel to put a thin layer on the ground where your bin will go, then set it in place.

Lay the tray in the mortar, using a spirit level to check that it is not sloping. If you can’t get it exactly level, you may need to raise the pan and adjust the mortar. Tidy up the edges and remove any excess mortar with the trowel. Then finish the job by opening the floor hatch and connecting the siphon to the waste pipe.
